SunStone offer new expedition cruise ship design for BB charter to Cruise lines:

No yard has been specified for the building of the ships.

Will we see cruise ships like this in the future?
Innovative and near emission free, yes, but not easy on the eyes:

Not in the too near future, I hope.

Peace Boat is back:

Fair wind and safe voyage!!

Now all we need is some peace, not war mongering so she can keep on sailing for MANY years to come…

Away from the maddening crowds on large cruise ships?
Here is an alternative “cruise ship” that offer no entertainment and no crowd pool (although the hot tub and sauna may get a bit crowed after a long day of outdoor activity in the Arctic):

She was originally a Buoy Tender, blt 1974:

The middle way may be better.

MV Vikingfjord looks like vapor-boat at the moment - rather low quality artist concepts of the outside, though the inside renderings seem to have had more effort. It takes real chutzpah to call a boat with a 49 year-old hull “new”. I wonder how “new” the mechanicals are?

She has apparently had some engine trouble earlier:

During her many years as a Government owned vessel she would have been very well maintained, with regular docking and service periods.

Don’t know if the latest conversion incl. change of Main Engine, but with the strict regulations applying, or anticipated for operation in Svalbard and in certain fjords in Norway it would stand to reason that she now has been equipped with low emission propulsion. (??)

Nieuw Statendam in Ålesund today:

Viking River Cruises are also operating on rivers in Europe, Asia (Mekong) and North America (Mississippi):

When will they show up on the Yangtze and Amazonas rivers?
