Crowley Puerto Rico Fleet

She just went in last week

Oh, yeah, I agree. About the only change I would make would be to put a synchronous switchboard so that the generators could be run in parallel, but I understand why they didn’t. For the engineer, lots of grunt work, but not really a problem for one man, especially a young one. . . . .

National Glory calls there regularly

Their tankers also run there regularly

National Glory isn’t Crowley’s ship, they just manage it

Crowley Petroleum Services are an entirely different animal… commenter was talking about the Tug Explorer

“She just went in last week”

Only because one of their regular foreign flag vessels is in dry dock. The Tug Explorer is not on a regular service into Port Everglades (like the commenter stated) or on a service between Port Everglades and Puerto Rico (like the original poster was enquiring). They do make occasional runs between Port Everglades and JAX or Cuba. You are only seeing the vessel briefly calling Port Everglades more frequently because other vessels are being repaired and they are making more frequent runs to Cuba. It is just filling in and is mostly a “JAX boat”.

Why?

The Patriarch, Defender, Explorer (all invaders), are all still making calls to PR. The Alert is too.

Explorer sometimes will do a contract run that may take them into everglades

Again, not in dispute… but it isn’t “running a regular run into port Everglades”

So they didn’t necessarily need engineers familiar with operating one. Easier to go dead ship when shifting generators.

So in order to prevent going dead ship when switching in generators they make it so you have to go dead ship to switch generators. Makes sense. Plus, then the engineer needs to be standing at the switchboard when maneuvering inland in case the generator goes down.

I never had an issue with the generators. The load was easily handled by the 3306 Cats. When swapping generators underway, I always alerted the wheelhouse to put the radar on standby. Had the incoming generator running and warm. Opened the breaker for the online generator and closed the breaker for the incoming generator. Not very elegant, but again, even a deckhand could do it in a pinch. And yes, during maneuvering, I was always in the engine room. We would keep the offline generator running as we got near the dock. Both auxiliaries are fitted with PTOs for operating the hydraulic captstan on the bow. Kind of amazing what one remember after nearly 40 years. . . .

I heard they have to keep some invaders. They will need them to tow the new boats to the scrap yard lol

They swapped out some of the 3306’s with John Deere disposables on some of the boats
