COVID-19 Maritime News

Gee, thanks. I laughed so hard I broke a rib and can’t even go to the hospital…

It was just a thought… He could have led by example. Little late for leading by example now though. Another crazy idea was for the Trumps and the Kushners to forgo rent for tenants who get laid off due to this pandemic. They claim to be billionaires they should be able to take that hit for a few months until they get this all under control.

Judging from Jared’s remarks re: the federal stockpile of ventilators, best summarized as, “They’re OUR ventilators, how dare governors ask for them”, I think Jared’s tack would be for the governors to count up all the empty hotel rooms in their states before asking a billionaire to donate any.

He has the CORONA virus. I love irony.

Trump said that States should have ordered ventilators already three years ago, then there wouldn’t be a problem now. Strange, because in January he said that the virus was no problem, only one Chinese in the US with the virus so no worries mate.

Without extensive pre-boarding screening, it’s impossible to know whether new asymptomatic crew are bringing COVID-19 onboard and infecting the whole ships’ crew.

Guidelines from the World Health Organisation recommended that a clinically recovered COVID-19 patient should test negative for the virus twice, with tests conducted at least 24 hours apart. Antigen PCR tests are the critical test for this scenario.

You’re confusing me with someone who doesn’t do pre-boarding screening. See my posts on the “Screening Arriving Crew for COVID” thread.

There is a lot more to this with repatriating ships crew than just finding a port that will allow them ashore and an airline to fly them home:

Latest on the crew changs debacle for the world fleet:

The Mayday message from Dave Heindale, Chair of ITF seafarer section:

The question of crew change is prominent this year.

The Philippines recognize Filipino seafarers as “key workers”:

Will that help them in the quest to unhindered crew change around the world? Or to be allowed shore leave in foreign countries ala they follow local social distancing and other rules?
Hardly likely, me think. What say you??

PS> That cover picture doesn’t look like it is from a merchant vessel. More like a dormitory in some Middle-eastern country, (or on an old Bethlehem rig from the 70s)

Anybody here on the forum that has signed yet?

Why would we do that? Don’t you remember? We’re the selfish mean spirited people who refused to let them disembark and forced them to stay at sea!
