[/I]Presently in Australia, there is a significant amount of concern on changing legal structures and the relationship to criminalisation of the seafarer. We are now getting to a position (under the auspice of strict liability) whereby the potential for both civil and criminal action against the mariner is uninsurable. The game is changing all the time.

And I will repeat that: “The game is changing all the time.” I thought this was a US thing, to use paperwork, and what I call ‘obliviated responsibility’ to shift blame to the operator. The companies are doing EVERYTHING they can to have a finger to point, to shirk their corporate responsibility, (both financial and professional.) We will see what Carnival does in this instance. I BET Schettino is shot. And this should be a huge wake up call to all of us, who operate any vessel. I know I am just a number. Too bad corporate still gets their ‘golden liferafts’ when ‘the Shittino hits the rocks.’
