Civmars, civmars

Yes, ship’s operating budgets are taking a hit. If you’ve got a good C/M and Capt though they’ll be able to find the money for OT.

Last post on this thread is 2011…I’ll ask my questions anyway.

How long does it take to get scheduled for NEO, once you are considered “fit for hire”? (Does it take more than a month?)
Do you get something in writing that says you are “fit for hire” or “not fit” after your medical? (how long after your medical?)
The “30 to 60 days” hiring timeline, is that from the date of the conditional date offer to NEO date? (is it really 30 to 60 days?)

When in foreign ports, how much time off the ship do you get?
How long do you stay in foreign ports?
Is overtime a normal daily routine?
Any advice for a “wannabe CIVMAR”?

Cip, There are no hard and fast answers. OT is dependent on the budgets. OT is also dependent on how good at filling out m & r project paperwork your department head is. It is also dependent on whether or not your ship is deployed or sitting stateside. Also whether or not your ship is in fully operational or Reduced operational status.
Time off in foreign ports? Sure enough, after you work your straight eight. Turn down overtime to go ashore is said foreign port? Expect to not be allowed to work OT at sea since you just left your department head without your services inport.
Hiring time? Could be 30-60 days. Could be longer. The needs of the outfit vs your individual needs.
Advise? Go with the flow. Don’t loan any money. Don’t turn down OT. Hope this helps. good luck.

All the fed ships are taking a big OT hit. But at least we (noaa) still get free condoms. So there’s that.
