I am upgrading my 3rd mate near coastal to an Oceans exam. I must take 2 exams…(i believe modules 145xx and 146xx). Anyway, i was wondering if anyone knows what type of questions that i will get on the 15 question celestial nav exam (i must get an 80 percent)? The secondary exam, i am aware that i must get a 70 percent on it. What type of questions are on that exam? Thanks so much.
I would suggest you purchase an upgrade package from one of the schools that provide upgrade services. Studying on your own you may find that you waste a ton of time, its possible depending on your educational background, but generally difficult. Also the schools tend to keep track of the type of problems most recently seen on USCG exams. Question types: star selection, star ID, the sailings, star fix using three stars, time of LAN, running fix by LAN and sun line, time of sunrise, sunset, etc… The basics.
