Cel Nav Tutor Needed

I was in the Captain Bruce Celestial Navigation course when I got laid off, Then Captain Bruce retired and I’ve been trying to finished on my own. I estimate i am 70-80% thru the material but have had to skip some items I could not master. I am looking for a qualified tutor to help me finish before my approval to test expires at the end of March. I live in Chattanooga, TN but I assume I will need to travel. If you know of someone please pass it on I’m getting nervous.

Cel Nav Tutor, Mid Atlantic Maritime Academy has the best Celnav instructors, I would set something up with their folks.

Downeast Maritime…

I went there and had a T Nav tutor there. Best $$ I spent on my license. The guy’s name is Ed Horton. He is a retired master chief quarter master. He is fuckin badass!

The people and schools mentioned above are very well regarded.

Additional good schools to consider are:

Crawford Nautical in Seattle (oldest school for professional Mariners in the US). The downside to Seattle is accommodations close to Crawfords in Wallingford can be pricey; Best bet is Air BnB.

Casey Celestial Navigation, Capt. Ernie Casey, in Panama City. That sounds warm and sunny this time of year.

Another alternative, you might be able to Skype with a teaching assistant at an academy, or some other school.

Given that you only have a small amount of material left to learn, that should come together quickly for you with a tutor.

What specific topic(s)are you having a problem with? PM and let me know your real needs, Cel Nav covers a wide range of topics.

Mid-Atlantic has various options to help you with. They have the Celestial Navigation classes or in your case where you feel you need help only in certain areas they offer instructor lead study. Feel free to contact (757)464-6008 or check out their website at www.mamatrains.com.

One of my co-workers was going to take c-nav but on the first day they pulled him out because supposedly MAMA lost their accreditation for that particular class.

They still have it listed on their schedule and I have not heard anything else about it. So who knows.

Call CMTI about getting some 1on1 help.

It’s not a tutor, but you may want to check out these study guides. www.decklicenseprep.com
They are all of the USCG questions, their solutions and plots if needed. It’s nice because you can just buy the modules you need and there are sample problems on the website.

Also check out the youtube channel “MMAdeckprep”, you might find some useful info there too.

I was at fletcher yesterday asking about oceans upgrade celestial class. They have one that works around your schedule and adjusts to your knowledge of the subject.

If you just need to finish up learning, then intend to take the Celestial test at your REC, may I recommend the Celestial Nav CD from Hawsepipe.com. It is one of the few CDs out there that actually teaches your the course, instead of the normal questions and answers.

I did not take the Celestial Course at a institue or college, rather I just used the CD from Hawespipe, and took the test at the Charleston REC.

Good luck on whichever path you choose.

PS, Where is the spell check on this forum?

I recently took Operational level Celestial at Mid Atlantic Maritime Academy, they have not lost any accreditation for any of there CNAV classes, operational or management, in fact they are approved for more courses than any other school I have attended, and there instructors are really good at presenting the material and are subject matter experts, I have not attended another school since I found MAMA on the website, and a friend told me about it also.
