Happy Easter!
I see that the Trump administration wants to add a levy to any vehicle carriers not made in America calling at US ports:
Are there ANY vehicle carriers built in the US in activity at this time?
But at least they MAY do something that make sense (unless there is a change of mind tomorrow):
PS> How does that fit with the policy to bringing shipbuilding back to America?
Al Capone paid his taxes before they were due, Richard Nixon was not a crook, and Jeffrey Dahmer was a vegan.
Thanks for the early morning giggle. That is the best one I’ve read in ages.
It will when Trump annexes Finland. Tough tanoogies if the Finns don’t like it, he knows what is best for them.
We all know what Republican President Ronald Reagan called nearly 3 million “illegal aliens” in 1986 … Americans.
Reagan said, “The legalization provisions in this act will go far to improve the lives of a class of individuals who now must hide in the shadows, without access to many of the benefits of a free and open society. Very soon many of these men and women will be able to step into the sunlight and, ultimately, if they choose, they may become Americans.”
I don’t know exactly how this is going to work any time soon except as a de-facto additional tariff on goods arriving in the US on Chinese ships.
As this is a levy on Chinese ships and until there is a sudden renaissance in US ship building I see suppliers opting for non Chinese built ships to transport goods to the US from an intermediate port supplied by the Chinese ships or switching to non Chinese built bottoms but that won’t be cheap.
There will be workarounds just like there will be with tariffs. During Trump I tariffs roughly 200,000 exceptions were made by the administration. The cynic in me says money likely changed hands.
At any rate things are going to be more expensive in the USA. But if you have $10 million or more in the bank and a pension it’s not a big deal. If not? Well you weren’t in the algorithm.
My take, it will never happen- will be done away with before the 180 day implementation period
I remember when I was there in May of '85 or thereabouts (same time the Rainbow Warrior was sunk in Auckland by SDECE). Police shot and killed a man who was holding his wife hostage with a shotgun to her head. It was the fourth time since sometime in the 1950s and there was an uproar in the press. For context, population was about four million at the time.
The US gun policy has been driven by the gun manufacturer lobby and their propaganda for many years. They twisted around the 2nd amendment which was passed when only muzzle loaders were available to mean anyone could have whatever gun they wanted. Example: When I was in my teens and twenties the state I lived in encouraged hunting especially when the deer population got out of control later. Fine with me as my family have been avid hunters for generations. At times it wasn’t just for food but for survival. However we were limited to 5 shot magazines in rifles and shotguns, 3 shot magazines for migratory birds and handguns were confined to the house. One had to be approved by the sheriff to carry one on your person. It worked. There were no school shooting, no mass shootings etc. But since then things went downhill, assault rifles etc. There is a courageous article written by a Republican Congressman a few years back after a mass shooting. I agreed with him then but he succumbed to pressure because he like most politicians have no spine.
Of course not because executive orders are not law and not enforceable. They are just executive drama unless backed up by laws passed by congress.
LOL! You couldn’t possibly be more wrong. The last thing Trump wants to see is adherence to the rule of law.
The last thing Trump wants to see is adherence to the rule of law.
Methinks you misunderstand the ‘rule of law’ with what you have; the ‘rule of lawyers’. USA has a rule of lawyers as evidenced by lawyers deciding to overrule the legitimate and legal decisions of the president.
Since its peak in mid-January the greenback has fallen by over 9% against a basket of major currencies.
The latest drop against the Euro should be good for me since my product is cheaper for 90 percent of my customers. The only snag is that the idiot’s tariffs have made some components either unavailable at any price or only at a price that means I have to raise my prices more than the falling dollar savings to the customer. I spent part of today reviewing parts suppliers and found their price increases were outrageous and some are limiting order quantity or simply no longer stocking certain items.
It’s no wonder the moron in chief bankrupted every business he started and banks the loot he grifts off working people and his billionaire sycophants. As a nation, we are well and truly fucked.
Which one, in particular?
He wanted loyalty to the rule of law,
My chuckle for the weekend.
CJ is a convicted felon on multiple counts. ‘Convicted’ as in indicted by a grand jury of citizens, presided over by a judge, then convicted by a whole other jury presided over by a judge.
Felon as in ‘felon’. As in a criminal. But in the USA now there are two laws. Poor felons go to jail. Rich felons go to the White House.
But he is still a felon. Also found liable for sex abuse by the same system of multiple juries and a judge.
Also found financially liable for swindling students at a con called ‘Trump University’.
Can’t own firearms — because he’s a felon. Likely couldn’t get a USCG license, because fraud was involved.
So, to be sure not just a regular felon, but one also found liable for sex abuse, and for bilking students of their money. All by juries of citizens and judges.
But I got carried away… you were saying something about him loving the rule of law or something?
My chuckle for the weekend.
Small things amuse small minds.
then convicted by a whole other jury presided over by a judge.
As I’ve patiently explained to you before, the conviction doesn’t occur until sentence has been passed. The jury doesn’t convict. That’s the law. He has been sentenced and is only then convicted according to the relevant law. Even you, and everyone else here, can look that up right now.
But in the USA now there are two laws. Poor felons go to jail. Rich felons go to the White House.
I agree there are two laws under a New York judge and jury. He was convicted because his name was Donald Trump. If another person was charged for exactly the same string of non-offences beyond the statute of limitations, no conviction would occur.
Poor felons get their due punishment. Trump got his; unconditional discharge. Take your grumbles to the judge. I’ll wait.
Oh, and by the way, he got elected, by a big majority, of all Americans. So he goes to the White House. Nothing to do with his felony case. Your vote did that. Happy democracy.
Also found liable for sex abuse by the same system of multiple juries and a judge.
No. Different system. Criminal law versus civil law. Look it up. Trump was found liable for (note, not convicted of) sexual abuse and ordered to pay damages.
you were saying something about him loving the rule of law or something?
Did I say “loving”? Nope. Don’t you prefer judges to follow the rule of law? I would have thought so from you, forever pontificating about what’s right or wrong from your sadly deficient position.
Shall we wait for the full process of appeals before you humbly eat your words? Again, I’ll wait.
My chuckle for the weekend.
I think there were probably quite a few grinning “WTFs” when that posted. I don’t block anyone because it is interesting to read what the cult crazed mental defectives are saying but in this particular case I believe we have another certifiable troll who should be put on the Do Not Respond list. Please don’t feed the trolls.
