Cadet Internship Possibilities

I am a deck cadet at a US Maritime Academy and we have just started looking at the options for Commercial Internships. I’m curious mainly about American Seafoods, along with any Alaskan/Pacific Northwest ferries or tug/transportation companies that are in the mix (Shaver, Costal, Alaska Marine Highway, Washington State ferries etc.). Anyone have information on work type, pay, or any other information that would be good to know going into the decision process, I would appreciate it.

Cheers

Alaska Marine Highways would be a good place. If I remember correctly, they were on 14/14 schedule. Had to live in Alaska too. That’s pretty much all I know. Excellent place to hone your piloting skills. Don’t bother with WSF. Not sure about tugs or pollock boats.

For a cadet you normally will just go work your 60 or 90 or whatever days requires straight through, on tugs ferries whatever you can usually take a few days off when you want, or if you really wanted depending on company work or a schedule. That’s my experience, just get it over with

American Seafoods would be a good place, big factory draggers in Alaska. Shaver is just ship assist and River towboating out of portland.
