Autonomous Ships (again)

That is not a real Norwegian Troll. They eat Lutefisk, Lefse and Americans that dear to step into their Kingdom:

But no matter what type of troll you encounter, you now know that all you need to do is keep your wits about you, keep a knapsack full of cheese and aquavit, and hope there’s some church bells around!

At times, especially with this stay at home virus crap :grinning:

He’s not a troll in the conventional sense. He provides news that many of us either don’t have the access to or time to look for. He has a lot of work experience and knowledge of that I have no doubt. I disagree with him a lot but also agree many times. A different point of view is refreshing to me, but it’s also annoying at times but I lived with annoyance for many years while working, so I can take Ombugge’s occasional annoyance easily. I have no desire to live in an echo chamber of my own ideas and opinions. That would be boring.

When autonomous ships shows up in ports around the world they better be ready. Some port states are getting together to make sure they are:

Starting small:

But every journey starts with the first step.

nice but Sonardyne did that several years ago including autonomous underwater stuff

That doesn’t change the fact that Fugro ordered two USVs, which is what this article was about, not who invented USVs.

The shore side crew were exhausted??

Germany is joining in on developing autonomous systems for ferries:

With the Yara Birkeland in (temporary) limbo at Vard Brattvåg a new project is getting the limelight:

Are we one step closer to autonomous deepsea ships??:

That was not the intended link. Here it is:

Yara Birkeland is out on sea trail:

Kotug’s Rototug R.T.Borkum has sailed autonomously on the crowded Neuwe Maas:

So a tug can only push if autonomous, meaning remote control not autonomous.
How to connect lines up, giant magnet?

Autonomous means doing its own thing like an autonomous vacuum cleaner.
Just what you need in a port

Good question. You can certainly push ahead. Going astern may be a problem.
