Approved Courses for Sea Service?

Hello,

Does anyone know if there are any Approved Courses (either deck or engine) for sea service credit? Thanks in advance.

Very few. They are generally not recognized for STCW. In STCW they are called an “equivalency” and must be declared to the IMO. There are only a few STCW equivalenices. The U.S. has one, but it is limited to simulator training at academies.

The only one, apart from comprehensive programs, I am aware of is the seemingly oxymoronically named Advanced Shiphandling for Third Mates at STAR Center. It’s approved for sea service to go from 3rd Mate to 2nd Mate, that is not an STCW “transaction” as they are both the same endorsement under STCW.
