Gentlemen, included here is a link to the AWO’s website and BARGE TOOL link. At this link you should find a form letter asking your representatives in the House and Senate to move the TSA to eliminate the second trip the the TWIC center that we all know and love. http://capwiz.com/americanwaterways/issues/alert/?alertid=60534536
With the membership numbers that gCaptain has, we should be able to exert a good deal of pressure on the “Gub’mint” to reduce the hassle we face acquiring and renewing a TWIC. Please take the time to share this with your shipmates and families. Fill out and submit the form. We aren’t going to have a voice in this unless we speak up.

Who the hell cares since getting a TWIC doesn’t cost much or is hard to get? Just another piece of plastic to hold along with a many other pieces of plastic and paper.
I hate the damn thing it puts us one step closer to a national ID card. You can’t fight city hall on this one though. To much $$$ is being made off of it. The only thing that surprises me is Lockheed got it instead of Halliburton.
I didn’t care very much about the $140 fee, but I didn’t like driving 100 miles each way to apply, and then having to drive another 100 miles each way all over again just to pick the damn thing up. If they can mail a U.S. Passport, they sure as hell ought to be able to mail a TWIC card.
You know how we have to make two trips and wait weeks to get the TWIC card? Did you know that foreigner’s get their TWIC cards in just one trip because there is no way to check their records (if there are any) in their home country. They can’t even check out the Canadians. So the TSA just passes out the TWIC cards to the very people that they should be scrutinizing the most closely. Doesn’t that make you feel safe? What joke.
For those of us for whom it is a 2 and a half hour drive one way to get to the nearest TWIC center, it is a big deal to have to do it twice.
It was 8 hours each way for me before I went to work for ECO…now it’s in the office, go figure.
It may not be a burden for all. But as an industry we should support each other in the knowledge that some of our shipmates have to go to quite a large burden in order to obtain an ID card that is virtually useless.
I would add that the cost or ease of accessibility to receiving one of these excellent pieces of crap is precisely what is being called into question. I could see if this was a beneficial document it would be worth it.
I was crew changing at Motiva Sewarren last month. The ethnic ‘security guard’ demanded this for access to a terminal when by definition I am allowed ‘unescorted access’ to a terminal just by possessing one of these. Then why did my company have to pay $450.00 for the ability to have me escorted??? Some companies have resorted to least common denominator instead of participating in the system. (Hello Motiva). Thanks USCG for ‘approving’ their security plan. BARF

Geez Cap, If you’re not part of the solution you’re…ah forget it. I don’t think the damn thing is worth 2 trips is all, do you?
A two hour drive four times is eight hours behind the wheel. All this to find out that the transportation worker extra redundant piece of plastic (TWERPP) is not accepted as valid ID at the transportation worker extra redundant piece of plastic center! I love the irony. I’ll sign that form. Rhe twic is a sham. I have never seen a reader yet. I’ve only shown it to minimum wage security guards. The whole program needs to be dropped.

I saw a reader used on a movie recently. Now that was funny! They are apparently only used in the imaginary world!
Was this actually for a TWIC or some nameless ID card? And what movie was it in?
Yeah, it was actually a TWIC and a TWIC reader. I can’t remember for sure but I think it was Contraband.
I am in . Added 6 other names to . Thanks for posting
Well, we all know how TV is ‘real’ and politicians kowtow to actors(actresses). It’s about time we all jump aboard and realize where the truth lies. Oops, I meant Lays.
