Amen! I tried to get that system going for years, but nobody would listen. 6/6 is just downright unhealthy, puts you in an early grave. 12/12 is better, but those watches can be grueling sometimes. So here’s an idea, do something in between that allows for shorter watches, but also allows for 7+ hours of sleep, it’s just not that difficult!
I totally disagree with “12/12 is better.” I much prefer 6/6, but to each his own.

Yeah, I never felt really rested when I was working 6/6.
Me neither. I fully refuse to ever work that schedule or 1800-0600 ever again!
When working 0001-1200 I found it best to force my self to stay up till at least 1500 then I would sleep till 2300.
I can’t do any type of rotating schedule as i do best with a set schedule or 6 on 6 off as it takes me 2 hrs to just wind down enough to go to sleep most nights. Never mind getting a shower eating and taking care of personal business.
1800 -0600 is bullshit. As stated above I’ve only seen it used aboard boats with an micro manager who won’t let his mate handle any ship business and iys worse if running production as the mate becomes strictly an a-b guy who becomes real good at watching the line when tied off to a plarform at night.
My first few years I worked 4&8 or day work. When I started with SIU contracted tugs, it was 6&6 with OT after 6 or out of dept. Penalty OT for spills, clean-up and tank diving. It took just a few guys with creative writing skills to screw that up with exorbitant OT claims.
