Yes, but you don’t get the STCW endorsement with that by default anymore. You need three years as OICNW and all the classes and assessments for master.
Thanks so much for your answers. Some people seem to just want to put me down for seeking opinions from fellow mariners. The specific vessels I’m looking to Captain are all less than 200grt ferry’s. The company requires a 500ton license even though legally 100grt license would work for most of them. I’ve got a family and small kids. Life is very busy so I’m looking for the fastest most cost effective way to get what I need. I have no desire to work as CM or master on blue water vessels.
Apply for 1600 ton Master and take the crossover exam. I think it’s three modules now, Rules, Stability, and the 70 question crossover exam.
Ohh Ok. I thought it was just the 70 question. Didn’t realize they had split it into three modules. Do you have any good
Suggestions on study Guides for these particular modules? I know the Coast Gaurd stopped releasing their test questions a number of years ago.
Previously it was two, rules and the 70 question exam. They somewhat recently made stability a stand alone exam for 500/1600 ton master licenses including when you do this crossover.
Crossover chart…crossover chart…crossover chart.
