The Jones act applies to more than cargo carriage between U.S. Ports. The Jones Act protects individual mariners from most wage deductions. Your wages can’t be garnished for debt other than taxes and perhaps child-support without your authorization. i.e. If you pay Union dues you may authorize their deduction by signing the union dues check-off. Some employers will participate and some employers tell the union to collect the dues themselves.
Another aspect of The Jones Act requires American Cargo moved between American ports to be transported on vessels built in American shipyards When you consider the shore-side aspect of the Jones Act you will find a 100,000 or more American Jobs dependent on the Jones Act. The American Shipping Industry is prospering in general, when do we begin to put the welfare of the American People ahead of the Greed of a very few?
Great question. We don’t. Some of those we elect, because they are bribed, follow the orders of the greedheads that love money and power.
Mariners, get behind a Constitutional Amendment to Get $$ OUT of Politics.
You have to be able to communicate with a USN vessel to UNREP it. That means the logistic ship provider has to have comms capability to send and receive message traffic with the vessel in question, along with the Pentagon, half of all the logistics organizations also involved with supporting this operation. This includes all of our NATO allies, along with every country that needs a fill up that we consider friendly. How do we communicate? In secret. Classified messages that are encrypted by NSA cryptology. If I said any more, then I’d have to kill you all.
You think we are gonna give NSA cryptology to any boat with a diesel hose? Bottom line is, NO, we wont be giving UNREPS to foreign ships. This forum full of deck/engine and you don’t understand what goes on behind the steel door of radio.
Even more basic than GetSailin’s point, does the OP or anyone think that a foreign crew who’s new to at-sea fuel and cargo transfers will be able to just man the travelling block and fueling stations and
then it’s “Here we go boyos!”.
Hell no! Only sailors who have done this for years can train and man, operate, diagnose and solve problems with that extremely complex equipment. That would eliminate all but UK, Canada, Germany, who have similar operations in support of their Navies. I am restraining myself about the thought process behind the thread title, so I’ll stop.

The steel door of radio doesn’t exist outside of MSC. Sparky is a ghost, but yeah we ain’t giving fuzzy foreigners govt comm access until hell freezes over.
Again: I read every post and flabbergasted at the lack of forsight of some of you. When are you going to realize we are not really a nation of Laws anymore… That the powers that be can arrange any damn thing they want and increasingly it all has to do with money and influence. Likely, in our time you will see abridgement of the first amendment in order to accommodate Shari law, and I’d say within the next 25 years one will be able to choose whether to be tried under American law or Shari law… and a few years after that you may not have a choice.
Right; Commo Security is going to have a say on manning of a govt. ship supplying goods to our troops? Maybe one of you can foresee how that little obstacle could be averted?
If the last ten years haven’t taught you you will eventually learn the Heyday of this nation is probably about up and it’s time to join the international community and share our ill gotten wealth with those ‘‘less lucky’’ so we can all be equally poor… anything else is unfair and cruel… if you don’t believe that then go back to school!

I was taking you seriously right up until the moment you started with that loony shit about Sharia. Are you sure you’re on the right forum? Freerepublic might be more your speed. There, people will nod in agreement when you explain that white Christian men are the most threatened minority on the face of the earth, and our conquest by the scary brown hordes is right around the corner. Heterosexuality will be outlawed, and elementary schools will hand out free drugs to illegal alien voters. We don’t have much time to fight back, because B. Hussein No-BONGO is going to activate HAARP any day now!
They’ve been using the HAARP for years now. Why do you think we’ve been having all this crazy wx lately? Sheesh pay attention dammit oh and you forgot the schools will be passing out condoms and cigarettes too.

I ask only because I’m new to the industry and there is an awful lot of doom-and-gloom out there. I knew something didn’t sound right and the general consensus here seems to be I was right about that.
