Will container vessels ever have independent docking and undocking capabilities?
The homemade Japanese projectile looks like it’s made out of wood and uses a poly line. All of that floats.
The guy that posted the picture of the Japanese model replied to your comment about it being wood by correcting you, saying it’s plastic and filled with foam. Why do you continue to argue what it’s made out of?

Sorry. I was hasty and misunderstood which device he was referring to. Glad you cleared that up.

Yes there are some fancy stuff that throws lines and may even be approved to replace the traditional rocket type, but for day to day mooring purposes, or to pass a messenger to a AHT/AHTS from the deck of a Semisub on transit draft I think the Japanese model is fine, cheap and efficient, even in an emergency.

To throw a heaving line the other way, from the tug to the deck of a very large ship/rig would take a big man with skills.

Maybe a market for something like this in the US?? (Free business idea)
PS> Don’t know if it need to be USCG approved though.
The smaller model costs $4,000. Few tug companies are would spend that unless it were a critical need for planned rescue towing.

The 'homemade" Japanese style line thrower made out of the 20 lb. propane bottle (sorry no metrics for that) looks a lot more affordable.
$4000 is cheap when you think about the hassle it took to get all the paperwork and certificates. And you dont have to stand there with your dick in your hand and explain to the CG why the home made line thrower injured a crew member or someone else.

Don’t have to check the location of the company to know where they are from.
