gCaptain featured an article on fully automated ships (no crew) only to day. Mind me if I say so but would that be the solution for the US Navy. Counting the number of USS ships in operation and projected on the number of incidents these ships are involved with it might be the only solution. If not than perhaps this Navy should put professional Seaman on the bridge. Also funny is the fact that with merchant marine incident ships tracts are shown almost immediately afterwards. Something to hide?
Still, I feel sorry for the youngster
s that have lost their life.
You seriously don’t see any downside to military vessels allowing themselves to be tracked on the internet with AIS? Soon enough a report will come out. Until then speculate away. Improving conditions humans operate under / within might be more successfull in preventing incidents than “automating” ships.
