Top Global Traders Push to Cut Shipping Emissions

Getting on my soap box here. Right now US crude oil is being exported to Asia from Texas and the LOOP while African and Middle Eastern crude heads here. Why is that? Instead of paying US Jones tanker rates, they’d rather ship this stuff 1,000’s of extra miles because the freight rate is lower than hiring Americans. If shipping companies had to pay for all that extra carbon (and that was included in the freight rate) this oil would stay here. And the refineries (the ones that are left) on the EC can run Texas crude just as easily as Bonny Light.
