Talking Politics Aboard Ship

Sowing distrust in the media, facts and news is a deliberate tactic of wannabe Dictators.

With differing opinions on the media I have to ask this. With regard to institutions like energy companies, pharmaceuticals, lobbying, tech companies, media/Hollywood, etc, where is power concentrated today?

Wherever the most money is. I would remove lobbying from your list as they are simply hired by the others on your list to promote their views. If there is enough money paid they’ll lobby for anything no matter the consequences to the populace. A huge number of them are former congressmen or staffers. As they were when they were senators or house members they have no soul, only their own self interest which is, making money. The amount of money or influence one has determines the value of a human being is the general philosophy.

Governments aren’t the only ones who sew confusion for their own gains. I became more aware of how the media distorted truth during the first months of the 2nd Iraq War when I was in my early-mid 20’s. I was working a lot in Asia where I watched CNN Asia, preferred regular CNN but watched CNN Espanol when at home with my girlfriend in Peru. 3 branches of the same network & it was like each was reporting on a different war because their narratives were so far apart. During the most recent government overthrow in the Ukraine I deliberately set out to get news from Russia news outlets. Of course it was mostly Russia propaganda but they did point out some facts & uncomfortable truths that only a couple American media outlets touched on. There’s little wonder why the people of the world have so many different opinions on the same topic.

American “news” media has become too partisan and untrustworthy. I prefer European news sources, provided that they are not owned by “the dirty digger.”

The first Russians I sailed with were reticent to discuss anything about politics or their opinion on anything. Probably the result of years of harbouring a different opinion being bad for your health.

So true. ‘Right’ or ‘left’, you hit the nail on the head squarley.

Five years ago, if you said some of the worlds most powerful and influential people were under the control of a dude that ran a pedophile island, you would get laughed at. And that the same dude would commit suicide while on watch while the 2 guards fell asleep AND the cameras that were watching him malfunctioned, they would think you’re double crazy.

There’s just enough crazy out there that happens to be true that it tickles a part of your brain that says “I BELIEVE” with regards to the most outlandish stuff. And when that outlandish, impossible stuff starts to come true or to be true, you’re left with a “waiiiiit a minute” moment.
