Talking Politics aboard ship

Yep, I remember years ago on a Lykes lines ship during a four month far east tramp. Seems two ABs were sending an allotment to the same woman. Not sure what happened when the trip ended…

The subject is not the problem, it’s simply some people’s lack of ability to rationally and respectfully hold an engaging conversation or debate. That being said, if tensions arise then move on. There are plenty of other things to discuss. If the conversation devolves to shouting then it’s no longer a talk, it’s an argument and arguments cloud good judgement, which can raise the risk of an accident on a vessel. Use common sense, read the signs.

Hell you should see what happens when 2 or more guys are banging the same woman onboard… on a small tugboat… that can make life interesting. Our crew is pretty right leaning, so politics are discussed openly, religion isnt really an issue on here. Everyone has an opinion, till they become an asshole about it, and even the captain or any supervisor should know when they are making others uncomfortable.

We are all doomed no matter who is in charge. The whole left right thing is all theatre at this point. There shouldn’t be any arguments when we are all getting screwed by the same people over and over and we keep voting them in.

I think you’ve nailed it. Bottom line is respect towards your shipmate. Having said that, someone that is seen as a bit of a prude will likely not get a free pass.
Pretty ironic considering 20+ million Russians died when another country held a similar view of their culture…
Here we go with the politics and remnants of propaganda. The Soviets were no innocent bystander of WW2.

Hit the nail on the head.
I enjoy a lively debate and jovial banter.
However, when one side will not or can not respect and consider the other side’s viewpoint, it’s not fun anymore.

It needs to be kept out of public areas on the boat
