And unusual problem, not normally encountered with salvage operations has been encountered. Another landslide has occurred near where the grounded NCL Salten is still standing firmly aground:
Landslide in progress at the grounded ship: Have evacuated and cordoned off the area
LASTS: In connection with the work to check the ground conditions around the ship, a new landslide has occurred close to NCL Salten.

A landslide close to the cargo ship is developing and people are being evacuated from the area.
– We are relying on advice from geotechnical engineers. And we have chosen to evacuate four residential buildings for the time being, in addition to closing the road and expelling people who have been in the area.
This is what the incident commander on site, Viggo Hansen, tells NRK.
– The landslide is evolving and changed while we were standing down there.
The incident commander says that it has erupted in several places and the places vary in width from 10 to 50 meters.
Johan Helberg, who got the ship in the garden on Thursday morning, was standing looking out the window when the landslide occurred.
– We stood and watched as a good number of trees were lost and the wood the neighbor had cut down was now scattered across the sea. And the beach will never regain its old appearance.
Helberg is not one of the evacuees as his house stands on bedrock.
“There is solid professional expertise on site,” says Helberg, taking it all in stride.
It was around 4:30 p.m. that a landslide occurred during the work to free the ship at Byneset in Trondheim.
– The landslide has occurred approximately 300 meters from the ship and is 20 to 30 meters wide.
Just 15 minutes before, there were eight to ten people at the site of the landslide, according to Berggren.
– They had gone inside the police barriers.
On Saturday, several spectators made the trip to Byneset to see the ship.

Gotta make the ship lighter
On Saturday, the Towboat Company is preparing to remove the 135-meter-long ship that ran aground in Trondheim.
– Containers will be unloaded from eight o’clock tomorrow morning, says Ole T. Bjørnevik, general manager of Taubåtkompaniet to NRK.
Geological surveys are also being carried out on site.
– What we have done today is check the ground conditions around and under the boat.
Unsure how long it will take.
Ole T. Bjørnevik says they will get started on the work as soon as they can.
– First we have to secure the boat, get the cargo off and light it. Then we can tow it off.
Bjørnevik explains that the boat is standing with a displacement of well over 2,000 tons at the bow.
“The first thing that needs to be done is to lighten the ship, and then the containers have to be taken off the ship,” says Bjørnevik.
– We have estimated a week’s time. It will be well into next week before we have the opportunity to pull the ship off shore.
