Service Marine Shipyard

Does anyone have any info on the above? I’m assuming they are out of business since I can’t locate them. I do know they were building tugs in the 80’s down in the bayou.

They went out of business around 1997. Had a few boats under construction at the time. Total clusterf…k. Bollinger bought the yard. They operate it now.

Did they build quality boats? Tugs that is.

Not sure about the tugs, but the couple of old supply boats that I worked on seemed to fairly well built. Of course they were built for a ten year estimated life span.

The last boats under construction when they went out of business were the Laborde boats. They were taken to Conrad in Morgan city to be completed. The boats are still in service and don’t look worse for wear. They were the Red Lab am the John P Lab.

Those are nice looking boats. Do you have any first hand knowledge of the tugs they were building in the early 80’s?

a couple of there last tugs can be seen here:

Thanks capt. Appreciate that.

They also built several casino and dinner boats. I use to work on a dinner boat they built in 1994. It was way over built. Extremely solid boat.

The over all consensus seems to be that they built solid boats.

I have been told by several people that the tugs they produced were great boats.

Are you buying one of them?

I’m not personally. One boat is enough for me. But I’m helping a friend out who is looking at one for purchase.

Great link but there are several vessels missing from the list.
