Sea Star's El Faro
In court under oath:
I was not on either vessel, so I have no idea why they did what they did.
On the internet in forums generally the standards of discourse are a bit looser
I have seen this dynamic play out again and again in aviation forums.
Someone does something utterly stupid like get low and slow and manage to hit a seawall. The pilots who fly similar equipment all tell everyone else to shut up, they fly planes that weigh 3,000 pounds not 300,000 pounds, there are 100 things they don’t know about setting auto-throttles, fly by wire acts differently that flying with actual wires (control cables) etc. etc. It starts as circle-the-wagons thing. Eventually the NTSB finds out they really were just that stupid
A ship sailed right into a named storm and sank. You all have fun explaining why it was really space aliens or whatever. I am out.
Stand and present your evidence sir. You’ve rendered an opinion.
What are we to make of it, with neither evidence nor explanation?

Funny. I remember the seriously qualified, experienced expert that when confronted with his breathtaking lack of ā€œevidenceā€ supporting his ā€œfactsā€, got up and stormed out of the deposition room.
What a wanker to even try. i wonder what joe boss that was paying him thought of that.
When they lost the case, we certainly know what the judge thought.
But hey, it was only a couple of hundred million bucks
NO SALE SIR! This is a tragedy which must be discussed because the implications of it effect every American mariner which I am one. Such discussion must involve taking pieces to a puzzle and fit them together. When pieces all fit then there is a discussion which does not involve conflicting opinions but when pieces do not fit nor when it appears that pieces are missing then I believe we have a right to ask where are they? This is using what is known and what is unknown so is not ā€œunknowledgeableā€. I object to your declaration that I do not possess knowledge to ask the hard questions of where are those pieces that are being withheld and no, I am not prepared to just sit and wait until 2017 to get them. I want them now and am not going to cease demanding them even if you do not like that.
I’m glad they sell earplugs on Amazon. I don’t even have to go to work to get them now. Delivered right to my door !
That seems to have been correct.

Mat,

What was the forecast track of the storm at the indicated moment in time?

Thanks
