1: If the ship suddenly rolled over as someone suggested, would it be within the realm of possibility that people could be trapped in air pockets at the bottom? ( horrific, i know )
2: I think it’s time “grandfathering” in old ships goes away. Here is an idea - demand all ships have the latest safety equipment and make it mandatory or the ship does not sail. Come down heavy on companies who pressure masters to stay on unrealistic schedules that put the crew in danger in exchange for profit for the company. My sailboat is old, over 35 years. I constantly maintain it and get the latest safety gear and electronics i can afford. I go overkill on safety. It boggles the mind that these companies with ample funds to draw on are not required to equip all their ships - even old ones, with the latest stuff. The “lifeboats” on the el faro were a joke at best as you can see. The fact this ship was allowed to said with such antiquated life boats is absurd. Shame on the company, and shame on “grandfathering”
thank you to the poster who replied to my pictures before. I am a salty dog, but have done all my time on the water in my sailboat.
