There are many studies of “normalization of deviance” and acceptance of atrocities. The Nuremberg trials produced volumes of testimony from the victims and perpetrators of this phenomenon. More recent history of Asian, South American and African dictators offers enough examples to keep generations of historians asking how this sort of thing can still happen. America is now contributing to the pool from which future researchers will dip.
there is no explanation. It is capitalism at its finest. Supply and demand. The poorest always are hired to do the delivery work, you get hungry enough you’d roll those dice too.At this point killing them on the high seas is like shooting fish in a barrel. Other than satisfying the blood lust of the people doing it there is nothing accomplished. They’ll just ship more via air or land. IF the USA was a part of the ICC they would be hauled before the court for murder. But the US exempts themselves from accountability on most international issues, hypocrisy on steroids.
I just read the article. This is horrible. Does anyone know of a gofundme page where I can donate money to support these poor murdered drug runners? Maybe with enough support we can live in a world where all drug smugglers are rich & safe from being blown to bits. Maybe unionize them? Well anyways, I’m going to write my Congressman & see what we can do to save the drug smugglers. I feel really sad.
It’s like a Telemundo version of Easy Rider at sea with ballistic missiles instead of rednecks with shotguns in a truck. I’m going to use a Sharpie to write “Save The Poor Drug Smugglers” on my Starbucks sipper so everyone knows I care. Big mean dumb US Government!

How about a regular public announcement on all Latin American country’s media saying,
Warning! Transporting narcotics via fishing boats and other watercraft is extremely hazardous to your health and potentially fatal.
I agree with this. Maybe put labels on the boxes of fentenyl & cocaine letting the smugglers know how dangerous it is. These drug-trade workers were done wrong. I bet the MSDS for these drugs didn’t mention a word about being blown up from an aircraft or Navy Ship!? One thing that stuck with me after reading the article was how many of them were 1st time drug runners according to their families. What’s the chances of so many of the 194 killed actually being hardworking fishermen, all trying their hand at drug smuggling for the first time? It’s uncanny. I would like to suggest to the drug cartels to place their new drug dealers & smugglers in orange hardhats so they stand out from a distance. If the US military sees a banana boat doing 90 knots at night crossing the Caribbean delivering drugs maybe they’d think twice about blowing it up if they seen an orange hardhat & realized it was new drug smugglers, perhaps even former fishermen, just starting out in the industry? This is so heartbreaking. Poor drug smugglers

When a boat with a dozen people on board gets blown up, could it be that they were “smuggling” people from Venezuela to some Caribbean island?
I have noticed that when videos or pictures of the boats are publish, the “cargo space” are usually obscured. Why?
Could it be that what they carried where drums of fuel? Popular items to smuggle to Caribbean islands as well.
Or could it be fishing nets and boxes of catch?
Maybe unobscured pictures will be published after this administration is gone. 
We will never know.
When “double tapping” suspects for mere suspicion of activities for which the death penalty does not apply in this hemisphere, and no evidence is presented, becomes the norm and actually promoted by the law and order crowd we have gone far down that slippery slope of authoritarianism.
We have seen it all before and those who believe it provides security have historically suffered the most.
How safe are mariners anywhere when murder on the high seas replaces search, seizure, and prosecution when contraband is discovered or even suspected to be on their vessel. Will summary execution apply to the crew of the next boxboat suspected of carrying a load of drugs, alcohol, bibles, guns, birth control pills or whatever the authorities have declared the latest threat to the nation?
