Anyone else here in the reserves who ships? I am having a hard time working with my station to do my drills. They won’t let me come in during the week to complete drills and expect me to be there on the second weekend of every month. Just wondering if anyone had the same problem and or if anyone has a solution for this problem besides not showing up and getting a discharge.
What unit are you drilling with?
Station Barnegat light, NJ.
Transfer to the inactive reserves… or at least ask to. Maybe they’ll be more accomodating, if not IRR allows commissary use, base privilieges, etc…
I already tried that and they turned my request down. Maybe I’ll just try and transfer to a station that is willing to work with me in order for me to complete my drills.
You own a house? Move, or tell them you’re gonna move, outside of the drilling radius… they need to xfer you to the IRR until you sign up with a new unit… once they do that, decide you dont wanna move anymore…
Or run your request higher up the chain…
I just got my 3rd Mate Unlimited oceans… as a Navy vet was thinking about reservist duty, but I guess I need to make sure the same thing isnt an issue with the unit(s) I’m looking at…

You might want to talk to your CO/OinC/Coordinator and see if you can get attached to one of the 110’s or 87’s (if there any there) in your area. The closest ones I can think of is Sandy Hook or Cape May. Explain to them that you sail and need a little flexibility and a cutter would be a better fit. In addiition, If I was a CO/OinC on a PB, I would be real happy to have a guy like you attached.
If you see a cutter you want to get on, lemme know and I can make a couple of phone calls for u.
What is your rate? I am a sector prevention dept SRO; would love to have a someone with current shipping experience…we accommodate weekday drills regularly to facilitate qualifications and such. Hang in there, fight for IRR to keep your options open and to prevent loosing the time you’ve already invested.
