Hello,
i am a Georgia grade 12 student, currently i am in Australia doing a foregin exchange program. but when i get back to the states, i plan on graduating and then going to a Maritime Academy to become a Deck Officer. my question is, which Academy should i go to? what would be great is a pros and cons list of the academies, tuition, post graduation work placement and reasons why or why not you went to a certain academy thank you all in advance for your time!
Well I went to Cal because it was close to my home WA, and was the most relaxed in my opinion as fare as the whole core structure and regiment goes. All I wanted was the license, and the fastest route to a big ticket and a college degree was the academy at the time when I went.

I currently attend Mass Maritime as an out of state deck student. I’ll get back to you on all the technical details in a couple weeks but if you’re curious before hand, heres their website www.maritime.edu. My personal experience with the school has not been that great but I have been “on the radar”… Things are a little better if you manage to avoid becoming a target. The other cadets are in general pretty good, a few shitheads out there but where are there not? The teachers are also knowledgable and will help you if you ask, which I recommend regardless of how much of an asshole some may seem. The members of the commandants office… There are very few people I like in that department and hopefully you’ll never have to deal with them.
Anyways, more to come later.
I attended SUNY then went to Piney Point and ultimately graduated from Texas A&M at Galveston Aka TMA. I would recommended it to anyone. Small college attached to a major university. I was a resident of PA when I started but moved to TX while a student. Tuition was the same if you were in state or out of state but I got charged a $1500 fee per year for something or other fee. You basically wear a uniform and goto college but spend your summers as sea. Any questions PM me
