They actually called me on the ship about one of our Ab’s, which was a first. They didn’t know that DP MODU’s are ships underway all the time, so I gave them a copy of their own letter from 2000 that says so. I was able to email back and forth with the evaluator which was also nice, but the bottom line is our Ab’s can’t get STCW certs without six months of 8 hours days on the Bridge. (Ab’s on a MODU work on deck, they don’t stand watch). The RFPNW schools will sign the assessments but they don’t count towards the sea time requirement.
