Out-of-work megayacht captains switching to commercial vessels...JUST GREAT!
I knew you had to be drunk. You have #5 and #1 backwards…
of course you would but that is the mindset of the world of the GoM. It is hard to argue though that the money these days places the lowly world of mudboats much higher that even a decade ago but still one is nothing more than a seagoing pick’em up driver going on an endless loop out of the Foosh to a rig and then back. One never gets to do anything different of go any other more interesting and personally enjoyable place. Besides the God awful Fourchon Shuffle alone makes the job nearly intolerable!

btw Fraq was looking for you down on Bourbon Street a couple of nights ago…where were you man?
I hear there is some great window shopping in that town.
it’s fun to window shop but a veritable blast to actually sample the merchandise!

I believe you get good people from all different scopes of experience or academies. You also get bad people from all different scopes of experience. I do my best not to pre judge someone on where they came from or what their previous experience is. Let them prove themselves. They can either do it or they can’t. I worked research vessels for more than two decades, I’ve been in the oil patch about 5 years. The people I worked for when I arrived let me prove myself, and things are moving along just fine. I applied myself to learning the aspects of the job that were different from my experience, and I asked many, many questions. I still learn new things every day. As should every other mariner out here. Never think you know it all. That could get you in big trouble someday. I’m happy in the oil patch, and my employer is happy with the job I do for them. It was a fairly easy transition for me, it won’t be for everyone. Some will never make the transition. But shouldn’t they be given the chance to try without being pre judged? Just my 2 cents!

I was around…just waiting for your signal…

Dammit all to hell man!

Think of the unprecedented MAYHEM we might have instigated and being Bourbon Street, that would really be something for the record books!

Ya snooze. ya loze, dear.

[QUOTE=Rotorhead;127442
I would put Reseach and NOAA vessels higher because some require very precise navigation and position holding, handle some expensive and specialized submersibles, and on occasion can come into conflict with Chinese “fishing vessels” depending on where you are sailing and what certain people in Beijing think you are up to (Bottom mapping their continental shelf? Oh, say it ain’t so!)
Cool, can we get a bit more money now? Because I am about to sell a Marlin lever-action 30-30 rifle I’ve had since 1980-something so I can pay for VPDSD.

If it was my rifle or forced retirement I think me and my baby would be taking up residence in a nice cardboard box somewhere.

Glad somebody wants to see NOAA/research up the food chain a bit but can we get a few more shekels out of it, too?

Getting ready to sell some guns, jewelry and surfboards here. I am selling a Marlin lever-action so I can pay for VPDSD so I can be legal enough to work somewhere else. (apparently my maritime security cert isn’t enough)

I passed through New Orleans on New Years eve on the way back to my rig, and by the way what is this about you being in Mobile a few months ago. You didn’t call Fraq or me? One more out burst like that and you are off my Christmas card list buddy.
