Yup.
That was under previous regulations that did not allow for post dating. 46 CFR 10.205(a), revised in 2014, now allows it.
Awesome! Iāll keep that in mind for my next renewal.
Do you think itās still happening how much does that coast haha
You think thatās bad, thereās a kid on Facebook who applied for 100t master got an unlimited master limited to 2000 tons⦠the NMC is a fucking joke
I get that there are a lot of backups at the NMC right now, but I thought it was rather odd that my application has been āin transitā from the Boston REC to the NMC for almost 2 weeks now. I can only assume that it must be sitting in a pile of envelopes at the NMC awaiting intake processing. I just hope they didnāt lose it in the mail!
Of course, canāt be any other explanation because USPS is so reliable
Why, in the digital age, is any REC sending anything by any method other than electronically to the NMC?
If one emails their application to an REC does the REC forward it electronically or do they print it and mail it via USPS?
Because we couldnāt possibly expect them to operate in this modern ageā¦
The last time I mailed anything to my REC was over 5 years ago & the REC mailed it back to me after they forwarded electronic copies to the REC I assume. I got my original docs back before I received the MMC & medical certificate.
My submission to the REC was electronic, which further compounds my confusion at a 2-week āin transitā delay. Why would the REC/NMC conduct internal document transfers by USPS when they accept electronic submissions from mariners?
The fact that we must send things to the REC only to be past on to NMC shows how inane this system is.
Remember in the beginning when the RECs and the NMC were having a dysfunctional turf battle over the applications.
Along those lines, Iām still trying to figure out why they have to use USPS to send those dreaded āawaiting more informationā letters instead of electronically.
They can send them electronically. I always call and say Iām not home can you pretty please email it? And boom done.
Why they donāt do that automaticallyā¦.
This may be a coincidence, but I received a series of quick updates regarding my long awaited renewal a couple days after my congressman responded to my inquiry. My florida rep said he would speak to the coast guard on my behalf. It was really quick which makes me think it was just coincidence. I grew up thinking people who complain to politicians were weirdos, dude gets my vote though. Man I missed a few very good opportunities on account of this.
My request for reconsideration sat at NMC for 11 months, but was approved a couple days after someone at USCG Headquarters mentioned how long NMC had been sitting on it.
I know at the top of the food chain at NMC sit USCG folks. But it is my understanding, perhaps wrongly, that private contract employees not US government employees handle the processing at NMC. If this is true it may explain a lot of issues being experienced by mariners. Could someone enlighten us on this.
Itās a company called Insight and Iām sure no west virginia representatives, or their friends and family have ties with the company.
Also if you stay on hold with the NMC for over 30min you get to hear some old guy do an a capella of John Denver for some reason.
