[B]Overview:[/B]
The Deck Cadet will learn and perform all deck and navigational duties aboard ship under supervision of the deck officer to become eligible for U.S. Coast Guard license and position as Third Mate. Deck Cadets will go through the basic aspects of seamanship, maintenance, the various systems onboard (lines, pumps, cranes, winches etc), cargo control room systems, basic stability, etc. Cadets are to become familiar with the navigational equipment on bridge and the demands of becoming a navigational officer. Deck Cadets will stand a bridge/cargo watch to learn watch requirements and routine as well as participate in mooring operations and cargo hose connection operations as directed by the Chief Mate. The Deck Cadet will also perform maintenance as directed by department head[B]Key Job Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:[/B]
• Participate in company programs such as Behavior Based Safety, near miss reporting, Job Safety Analysis, Environmental Management System, Mariner Development System, etc
•Perform all deck and navigational duties aboard ship under supervision of the deck officer
• Go through the basic aspects of seamanship, maintenance, the various systems onboard (lines, pumps, cranes, winches etc), cargo control room systems, basic stability, etc
•Stand a bridge/cargo watch to learn watch requirements and routine as well as participate in mooring operations and cargo hose connection operations as directed by the Chief Mate
• Perform maintenance as directed
