Kinda fuzzy, but that looks to me like an inclinometer with the drag pointer at about 45 degrees on the Stb side, a little less on the port. (MSC Zoe)
It is an inclinometer alright. I donât know what your source was. So far I have not seen any pictures of bridge equipment which were taken post accident. It is unlikely that a roll of about 40° or more could be caused by 5 - 7 meter waves. It could happen with parametric rolls but the circumstances were not right for that, I think.

The inclinometer in the picture looks a bit old school, I would expect an electronic device on a modern ship. On rolling vessels the usual bubble or pendulum inclinometers indicate values which are too high. This margin error can be up to 30% of the measured value. Electronic inclinometers will not be affected by accelerations but will indicate the true inclination and roll period.
An electronic Inclinometer as this one is an advanced heel and pitch measuring device which is not sensitive to horizontal and vertical accelerations.

The Mayor is gloomy about the further handling of the container disaster by shipping company MSC. The disaster has already cost the small municipality tens of thousands of euros.

At the moment rumors are circulating that for the time being the MSC Zoe will not touch the Rotterdam harbor as the owners are afraid that the ship will be seized, chained on arrival by the Dutch authorities for failing of any payments so far for damages caused earlier by the ship.
Just bar all MSC ships from calling in the Netherlands. MSC will pay those invoices quickly.
A new theory was launched by a lashing expert during a recent hearing on the MSC Zoe disaster held in the House of Representatives. The lashing expert may be knows all about lashings, although, but not too much about ships.
The container disaster with the MSC Zoe prevented much worse. If the 342 containers had not fallen into the water, the entire ship would have capsized.
Thatâs what Gerard Baks from the International Lashing Company says. He is an expert in securing containers on sea-going vessels and spoke on Wednesday during a hearing in the House of Representatives about the aftermath of the disaster above the Wadden Islands. According to Baks, the lashing system of the MSC Zoe has done its job. The ship must have touched the seabed above the Wadden Islands on that January 1st. The MSC Zoe came out of balance and heeled.
Lashing bars hold the top rows of containers in place. They are made in such a way that they break off at a certain strength, after which the containers topple into the sea and the ship remains upright. Baks: âIf you look at it cynically, thousands of containers didnât end up in the sea that night.â
It is comforting to know that the lashing system of the MSC Zoe has done its job and so prevented a much bigger disaster to happen.
