The icebreaker had a doctor and x-ray facilities onboard and was at the end of a towline distance away yet the master would not ask them to assist or let anyone else on the bridge while talking to the company about the issue. The transcript is chilling and disgusting. The company office was a few doors down the hall from the coast guard office but no one bothered to inform or inquire. The whole affair is a stain on the CG and that company. But, as the captain was reported to have said about the chief, “he was old and worn out anyway” or words to that effect. It was a GoM company so that explains a lot.
