M/V Gulf Rambler

Hi all, new to the board and figured this is as godd a place as any to seek out a Capt/crew on a vessel.

Does anyone know the crew that would have been on the Gulf Rambler offshore towing vessel on Feb. 19th 2001? I would like to thank them for pulling me out of the water when a vessel I was working on fell and capsized.

I found some[B]

Thanks
I am sure that Tidewater would, at the very least, send your contact info to the guys that plucked you out of the water. All they can say is no.

I’m not sure how up to date that info is. I know that tidewater sold alot of there tugs to Crosby.

Kjun, you are correct Crosby has that tug now.

Thanks guys, Ill try them.

“thank them for pulling me out of the water when a vessel I was working on fell and capsized.”

shwane, come’on, you can’t just leave it at that. tell us what happened… there must be a good sea story here !!!

we’re waiting.

It was Feb 19, 2001, I was a crane operator on a 200 class lift boat. It was about 0300 in the morning when all the genny’s fired up. I figured I was late for work and jumped out of the rack to find a ~5 degree list steady worsening. We had a 60’ air gap in 110’ of water. I was at the stern when the boat fell. It was like the back leg broke off of the pad and hit the sand and went down. Anyway, the boat hit the water, I was sucked through the handrails and washed away from the boat. The initial onset of panic was due to the fact that I couldnt figure which way to swim to get to the surface. Second onset…sharks. I was bleeding pretty good and didn’t want to survive the fall and get eaten by sharks. I know, weird. Anyway, I surfaced near a PFD box and made a temp. raft with them and tried to swim back to boat. After 45 minutes of floating, swimming and shedding life jackets I was finally able to grab the life ring thrown to me and pulled back onboard. At this time the back 1/3 of the boat was submerged. during that time the M/V Gulf Rambler showed up on scene and attempted to get us off of the boat. It was cold, wind blowing 35+ kts, seas were abeam and 12’ and this guy held that tug within feet of us. He wasnt able to push up on us so he turned his port side to us and waited. Seems like I remember hearing him shouting encouragements to us. Well, the boat finally went 90 and began to roll over. We jumped back in the water and began trying to swim away from it. By that time the Coasties were there in thos 40’ rapid response boats. I still had enough reasoning in me to swim to the big boat. He hadd thrown over a jacobs ladder and was pulling people out of the water. We got on board and were attended to immediately. They gave us their clothes to put on and patched us up the best they could. Outstanding crew and just wanted to see if any frequented this board. I’ve sent several emails to tidewater after the incident, but got no response. I’d like to introduce them to my little boy who wouldn’t have ever been if not for these guys. Anyway, there’s my sea story, I hope yall enjoyed it.

Great story Shwayne!!
Thanks for sharing that with us,I really did enjoy it.
I hope you find the captain and crew,I’m sure they would like to meet your son !
Makes you realize how precious life is,and how fragile…
