More to the point: How did they manage to bring the material needed to build the tower and all that heavy gear out there at the time of construction?
An amazing piece of 19th century engineering for that location. 5700 tonnes of granite blocks, diesel generators and all the other heavy paraphernalia with no helicopters to assist.
2 month tour at £29 per week plus daily allowances………how times have changed. Now fully automated and unmanned since 1992.
