The full story is in the WSJ The Best and Worse Jobs here
Dont bother reading that trash. I’ll save everyone some time and paraphrase: If you sit at a desk all day and dabble in mathematics or the arts your job ranks high. If you dirty yourself or sweat like some foul laborer your job is undesirable.
That reminds me of a sea story…
An elderly lady came aboard for a cruise. The maitre d’ noticed she was a better class of passenger (and in a pricy room) so he had an invitation sent to her stateroom inviting her to dine at the captain’s table that evening. However she returned the invitation noting she would not be attending.
The maitre d’ found it a little unusual. Passengers are always thrilled to receive such a coveted invitation. Maybe she had plans to dine with friends or maybe she was feeling ill? He waited a few days and sent the old lady a second invitation. Once again she returned his note declining the invitation.
Now the maitre d’ was was stumped. In all his years no one had ever declined the honor twice. Seeing the old lady about the ship he stopped her and asked if there was anything he could do to accommodate her so she could enjoy a fine dinner with fine company at the captain’s table.
The old lady replied that no such accommodation would be possible as, “I do not dine with the help.”

The title is misleading, it should be something like “a ranking of occupations based upon certain criteria…” the criteria isn’t going too fly far on the forum - if you ain’t a logger…
As to the story, I’ve heard the same story but the lady in your story was Malcom McLean the person credited with the container revolution, don’t know if the story is true or not.
