In searching for a job, I've noticed alot of companys have MORE training than STCW

Safegulf etc…Are there gaps in the STCW training that these special classes fill?? One guy I talked to told me about a helo crash sim???

Most of the oil companies require Safe Gulf, and H.U.E.T ( helicopter underwater egress training), the newest buzzword is SEMS training…
It is an ongoing and ever changing evolution…
Most of this is paid for by the individual companies that you work for, some paid for by the oil companies that hire them.
Bottom line is " mitigating risks ", but you can read that as limiting liability…

SafeGulf is only an offshore industry driven requirement and consists of only pretty basic safety content. It has nothing to do with supplementing an MMC. There is no regulatory recognition of it. You get a SafeGulf card when completed.

The helo crash training is called HUET and is required if you are going to fly in a helo anywhere offshore. You get a seperate Basic Offshore Safety Training card with HUET indicated on it.

The two cards are seperate.

Seacor sent me to school for (stcw) first aid, personal servival, safety, huet, fire fighting. Other classes were hazwoper, haz mat safety, haz com, rigger training, rigpass, h2s, fit test, security, and defensive driving. About two weeks total in class

Well that’s pretty cool.

It would appear (coming from the towing industry) that some companies are already up to speed with increased training and STCW requirements.

The STCW requirements are the bare minimum for training. Some more reputable companies are sending their crews for additional training to meet vetter’s requirements. Soon it would appear that we are all going to have to have enhanced training. (although probably not HUET!) Darned.

Unfortunately I work for a towing company that sends us to Non Approved, company directed Non CG approved training. Sort of like pissing money out the door, just to say: “We sent the crews”
