The federal debt is your achilles heel. You are approaching a mandated limit and seem oblivious to the dangers, spending a couple of $trillion more than you earn each year.
I should be able to presume that you support DOGE efforts to cut wasteful spending of taxpayers’ money. NOAA has the managerial wherewithal to rearrange resources to maintain services and comply with cuts.
So the person who has studied endangered right whales their whole lives can just be shifted to assist programs like the tsunami warning system (which serves the entire Pacific by the way) or snow studies to predict flooding?
If you assume that government workers are so brilliant they can do ANY job you assign them to, I guess an ongoing hiring freeze combined with massive layoffs and retirements is no big deal.
There have been numerous studies on the value of NWS/NHC forecasts, here’s one.
Our results show that weather forecasts are a daily part of the lives of the vast majority of the U.S. public. Members of the public obtain 300 billion or more forecasts each year with a total estimated value of $31.5 billion per year
Several tornados came through the area yesterday afternoon resulting in 5 fatalities. It would have been considerably worst if not for the early warnings put out by the NWS and local authorities.
All the childish hyperventilating in your responses proves is that your doting on this bureaucracy is verging on fanatical and that you cannot understand plain English. It’s not shutting down. Did I suggest that? Let managers manage. That’s their job.
The administration’s job is to implement its policies to fix your federal finances which are a basket case.
Debt per citizen $107.666. Debt per taxpayer $323,050.
Anyone in congress that complains about the debt, proposes tax cuts and increasing a defense budget to over a trillion dollars [more than the next 9 countries combined] is fiscally ignorant and should not be allowed anywhere near any budget. Ignorance seems to be a prerequisite to being in congress now so I suppose this is not surprising.
[Disclaimer: I have no involvement in this, just passing on as it may be of ineterest] The National Weather Service (NWS) is accepting public comments through Wednesday, June 25, 2025 on the proposed discontinuation of the condensed versions of offshore marine forecast products. These condensed products are provided to the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) for broadcast over their HF radio transmitters, commonly referred to as High Frequency Voice Broadcasts (HF VOBRA). The NWS‘s Ocean Prediction Center (OPC) and National Hurricane Center (NHC) prepare and disseminate these text products. They do not broadcast over NOAA Weather Radio (NWR) transmitters, only via HF radio stations operated by the USCG. No change is being proposed to NWS marine forecast products that are broadcast over NOAA Weather Radio. No other changes are being considered for the Offshore Waters Forecasts (OFF), High Seas Forecast (HSF), or NAVTEX products.
You’ll need it now your AAA credit rating has been cut by Moody’s thus driving up borrowing costs and risks.
And isn’t it nice to know that billionaire, bloated organisations such as Harvard University are being hit by Trump removing its privilege of enrolling foreign students. Just watch how quickly it changes its mind about the woke antisemitism it espouses.
