OSV Crewmember Loses Foot In Accident Off Louisiana
A U.S. Coast Guard aircrew medevaced a 27-year-old man from an offshore supply vessel 5 miles off Louisiana, Thursday, after losing his foot in an accident.
The captain of the offshore supply vessel Miss Aubrey Ann contacted watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Houston-Galveston at approximately 4 p.m. reporting that a crewmember severed his foot after getting it caught in a line.
An Air Station Houston aircrew aboard an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter medevaced the man to the Lake Charles Memorial Hospital, in stable condition.
No further details about the man’s condition or the accident was released.
“Rescues like this are the bread and butter of operations of the Coast Guard, and this case is a great example of a coordinated Coast Guard response,” said Lt. Spencer Roach, the command duty officer at Coast Guard Sector Houston-Galveston. “The early and immediate call to the Coast Guard when the injury occurred was critical to saving this man’s life. When dealing with severe injuries at sea, seconds count.”
The Miss Aubrey Ann is owned by Louisiana Marine Operators in Broussard, LA.

This is just one example of how ballet dancing will never amount a raised heart beat compared to the stress of keeping someone alive with bare minimum of tools and training for sometimes hours, maybe days. I feel for the crewmember and hope that the medical community can provide him with the chance to carry on a normal life. We joke and cut up, but I would choose for my life to be in the hands of a professional mariner rather than a dance troup any day.
Stay safe and well.
Heard this play out on VHF yesterday. Saw chopper over boat 6 miles west of Calcaseiu channel. Topic of our safety meeting today.
Does anybody know what the persons rating was? OS AB Qmed Engineer Mate?
