Any of you old timers ever sailed on the Marad ship Gopher State? Formerly called “Export Leader”.when new built in Bath ,Maine.
Was C/E aboard the two sister ships- Flickertail and Cornhusker- when they were running for MARAD, not ROS, running… They were the Lightning and the Stag Hound originally with AEL- Sea Witch class containerships- amongst the first purpose built in the US.
I never sailed on the ship, but a former co worker was fired because he jokingly said to the CE, that he was going to wing it when it came to testing the CO2 system. This was some time in 2003/ 2004.
Never joke about safety, especially with the crew.
