My company has been hiring O/Ss for the crewboat side and even had to pick up some contract riggers for a job on one of the supply boats. I think they’ll start hiring more when the people they have get sick of pulling extra time. Just haven’t hit that point yet.
You care to share who your company is?
Nevermind, I found it. Damn, I went to LaBorde on my trip a few weeks back but was told the HR guy was on a ship off the coast of Maine and wouldn’t be back for a while.
You still down there?
Yup I’m still here. Saw a guy get hired at Eco as an os. Still nothing for me though.
Have you checked out SeaCor and Weeks?
Tried seacor. They aren’t hiring ABs. Hopefully next week I’ll find something.
How’s it going down there? Did you find anything yet?
Are you willing to start as an OS? These HR departments don’t always know what’s going on or what vacancies they need to fill. There was a mate who was desperate to get into GOM so he hired on as a galley hand and within a few days he was on the bridge using his license because the captain found out about it and they needed a mate. This was with a drilling company. I know the big OSV companies are like that too so you may want to try your hand at that if you’re willing.
Still waiting for a spot on a boat to open up. Hopefully I’ll find out here soon. I’ll be sure to update as soon as I find out.
Hang in there.
Any news on this? Did you throw in the towel or are you still knocking on doors? What is the latest? Your doing what I’m about to do so I’m hanging on your every word. Good luck!
Well I’ve been down here for a couple weeks now. The timing may not have been the greatest. From talking with the bigger players in the area most are waiting on new builds to come out and are not doing much hiring this time of year. I was searching for ocean time on unlimited tonnage vessels. If I just needed a job on any boat I may not have been waiting so long.
I came at the wrong time but my patience finally paid off. Good luck to those of you who head down looking for work.

So you finally landed a job down in the GOM?
