[DPO / Rig Engineers] How often do unexpected micro-weather events catch you off guard?

Hey everyone,

I’m looking into pain points regarding weather forecasting, specifically for DP drilling operations and offshore wind installation/maintenance.

  1. What are your biggest weather blind spots? Are you regularly getting caught off guard by sudden wind shifts or localized squalls that the morning forecast completely missed?
  2. What is the operational cost? How often do you have to initiate a controlled disconnect (for rigs) or halt turbine blade installations (for wind) because a localized wind event exceeded your safety envelopes without warning?
  3. Where does the current data fail you?

Appreciate any insights or sea stories you can share!
