Does you Boat have Wifi internet?

Companies are not smart enough to use free low bandwidth email like Thunderbird that will run on Iridum. They insist on using high bandwidth Microsoft Outlook because that what they have in the office.

The main reason we have Starlink is because it can run Microsoft Outlook and deliver the paperwork at relatively low cost.

I currently have Thunderbird set up to sync both my outlook and gmail, as well as another company mailbox. Not all features work seamlessly, most notably the calendar doesn’t sync, but if the issue is reading and replying to mail then it’s just a question of setting up the software.

Yeah, Gmail business accounts don’t allow that unless you pay an additional (supposedly outrageously high) fee. So we have to use a web browser, and Lynx unfortunately isn’t an option either.

Are you sure about that, or might it be office bullshit? I did a bit of searching around since that sounded a bit strange to me (why would my unpaid personal mail be allowed but not a business account?) and I can’t find a single mention of this. I did find several articles describing the setup process and prerequisites, including official ones from both Google and Mozilla, which don’t mention any such thing:

Google Support
Mozilla Support
Independently written tutorial specifically aimed at Workspace

If I were you I’d just try to follow the steps and see what happens. IIRC it was a royal pain to get oauth to work since my organization requires 2FA, but that’s supposedly been fixed in the latest version.

Yeah, something has changed with that. It used to not even let you try to login, but will now. Not a bad idea on that, glad you had me try it again.

I’m pretty sure it’s not “no more Internet” but they slow you way down.

Yes it does. Airplane mode and Wi-Fi off equals zero Internet access.

Airplane mode on iOS devices will reinstate the settings from your last time using that mode, a fact that not everybody is aware of. If, in airplane mode, you switch on wifi in the control center, then next time you leave and re-enter airplane mode, WiFi will be active and bandwidth may be used.

In summary, “airplane mode” may mean one of three things:

  1. Cellular OFF, WiFi OFF, bluetooth OFF
  2. Cellular OFF, WiFi OFF, bluetooth ON
  3. Cellular OFF, WiFi ON, bluetooth ON

(May be deemed a bit counter-intuitive, yet it’s consistent)

Did you notice how my comment said “airplane mode and Wi-Fi off”?

I did. You were obviously not in need of my response. My post was meant to clarify the somewhat murky iOS behaviour for those unaware of the intricacies of Apple’s flight mode.

From a strictly semantic perspective, for iPhones it would be “airplane mode with wifi turned off” due to the nested interdependency of the settings.

Sorry, it emailed me your response as if you had replied to my comment.

Thanks for politely following up! I may sometimes inadvertently hit the wrong “reply” button in this forum software (“reply to post” vs “reply to topic”), but I don’t seem to have done so in this case :relieved: but I can’t be sure. Forum layout differs between desktop, tablet and phone…
