Discipline for Seamen

I experienced much the same. Totally against the war once I saw what was actually happening. Didn’t participate in any protests against it, not because I thought the protestors were wrong but because I just wanted to forget. War was more democratic then and the military’s propaganda budget wasn’t what it is now. There was a draft and unless you had some deferment whether bone spurs or enough pull to get into the guard and were not a student you went. Most politicians had served. Not so now. The military has done a super job of romanticizing themselves and every chicken hawk that has not served is a super patriot happy to send someone’s else’s kid off to fight. Since there aren’t enough patriotic young people these guys do tour after tour after tour in places most Americans know nothing about and have forgotten why the US is even there. This most recent case is one of news media and politicians sticking their noses into things for votes and ratings. Saw the same thing after My Lai and other lessor atrocities. Rinse, repeat.
