Did the Military Sealift Command try to resupply our carriers/destroyer?

I can’t tell. Anyone know ?

You’re going to need to use more words if you want an answer. Did MSC try to resupply WHO’S carrier/destroyer? And what do you mean “try”. That’s literally MSC’s mission, to resupply navy warships.

I was in the MSC 1976-1979. The unnamed USN ships have been in the news for the last week or so.

Rumor I read was that the bases in the region that MSC resupplies at were hit badly enough that the issue isn’t that MSC’s not moving supplies to the fleet, but that there aren’t enough available supplies for MSC to move.

Also that since the primary (and relatively close) Bahrain base was hit by Iran, now MSC has to make runs all the way to Diego Garcia to pick up cargo to go back to the fleet. Tuns it into about a 10-day round trip and thereby reducing frequency.

As an aside…the Mizar was in Bahrain in 1978 to fuel up/get supplies. I went to downtown Manama in early a.m. to go shopping… and got caught in a sandstorm. I sheltered in a store entrance for 20 minutes before a BMW pulled up, hailed me over…and took me to our dock.
As a further aside, and if interested… ask me about our second visit to Manama a year later…and my interaction with a Sheik and his gun toting guards.
