Horizen 3 on the drilling club, had this to say, about the issues, in my “rant”,now GFYS Mr Couttie, and Mr Alcor Re: Cause of Blowout/Fire on Horizon

The rig crew pumped and executed the negative test just like BP wanted.
With the weighted spacer in the hole, there is no way possible it could have been successful.
The only way to do a negative test is down drill pipe only with ALL of the choke and kill valves on the stack closed, and all pressure readings and pumping done with the cement unit. Any other way introduces too many paths for leaks or a misaligned valve on the standpipe manifold or choke and kill manifold, or leaks through a mud pump.
Not to mention the inaccuracies of using mud pump stroke counters to do critical displacements.
According to BPs and TOs testimonies the whole test was a screwup and should have been repeated under more controlled conditions.
They say they pumped 454bbl of slug, how accurate was that? if they went off of stroke counters it could be between 5 and 10bbls off, if they went by how much was in the pit, did they allow for dead volume that could not be pumped? and the 10 to 30bbls that would be in the pump suction manifolds and charge pumps?
It makes a huge freaking difference when calculating pipe and annular fill heights.
They stated in their testimony that they knew there was still spacer in the BOP, WTF didn’t they pump some more seawater to clear it out? This was BPs call not TOs.
BP is the one that said the test was good, TOs people said it wasn’t, there were arguments, this is also documented, the displacement to seawater before setting a T&A plug was also argued over.
The seawater displacement of the riser should NOT have been done until the plug was set and tested after 24hrs WOC. I have P&A’d over a hundred subsea wells and that is the normal procedure, which is also an MMS convention, as well as several other governing bodies around the world.
BP ons this mess and no amount of back stabbing and finger pointing is going to change that.
If you read the reports BP does not admit that anything was their fault, and any attorney that has even driven by a law school could spot the BS in that, in heartbeat.
BP and in particular Hafle are going get their ass handed to them by the courts and you can take that to the bank.
