Kindly, speak for yourself. “We” will never be advanced as a civilization until we stop allowing insanely greedy & corrupt people (who are too niggardly to take responsible actions) to have control. Profits in the millions are not good enough for them. Oh, HELL no! It must be BILLIONS (in all caps, brightly colored letters & flashing lights)- MORE Billions!! (I want to throw up when I see a headline like the one that Toyota’s profits had “fallen” 1 or 2 billion dollars) If God had meant for us to remain primitive, oil (& our other resources. AND our brains- which He also created) wouldn’t even exist. I disagree that the general public has much connection at all (besides incidental consumption & allowing these people to get away with what they do). The “superlatives”; those brilliant & “enlightened” ones- in our society, squander their brains (& God Knows how much money) on crap like marketing & “cost cutting” to obtain more profit or overgrown science projects like HADRON or HAARP/ EISCAT when they could be using their energy & gifts to develop ways to responsibly produce & utilize our resources. What an incredible waste so that a few hundred/ or thousand people can get bloody, stinking rich & imagine themselves as “elites”.
Cars & oil don’t kill the earth. Corporations & politicians do- because billions of dollars is NEVER enough for them. They are bottomless pits. They are draining the life out of civilization like parasites.
They could figure out how to prevent or avoid leakage & spills, but they don’t- because the people at “the top” are so miserly, they don’t want to let anything cut into their breathtaking bonuses & lifestyles. So don’t try to extrapolate (or whatever) THEIR immorality & psychosis onto the rest of us. The majority have better sense & decency than to be willing to do anything just to accumulate more money than the next 3 generations of our progeny could ever spend.
You are right about one thing. Some kind of oil will always be- HAS always been, a necessary commodity. There is some death in the natural cycle of life. But wholesale death & destruction are the consequences of irresponsibility, greed to the point of psychosis, & inhuman disregard.
ETA: In response to
"We consider ourselves the most advanced species on the planet, and yet, we leave death and destruction in our path.
We drill for oil, and cause untold damage to the marine life.
And yet, our thirst for oil is not quenched. We all have a part to play in the destruction of the world.
In this case, birds suffer because we want oil to fuel our cars. All of us are culpable. Many, never asked what the consequences of our actions are. Blame who you like. Oil, will still be needed tommorow!!"
Cars and oil didn’t kill the earth when we had a certain amount of control…as in, Americans driving the biggest gas guzzling cars on the planet, no control. Remember one thing, the whole world wants a TV, car, hot water, and electricity…in equal amount to today’s heaviest consumers. So, that would be about 2 billion cars today, compared with 2 million 60 years ago. If we keep ‘advancing’ we’ll all be seeking oxygen masks on our way to work!!!
