The interesting part of the article reads “crews would be conducting 8 to 12 more magnetic ranging tests — each of which takes about half a day — to determine the precise location of the metal casing pipe in the damaged well bore.” This suggests that BP are aware that the casing has been displaced vertically and they are looking for the tool joints.
