Deepwater Horizon - Transocean Oil Rig Fire
Alcor, old buddy, you’re doing it again. In the face of overwhelming evidence pointing to gross negligence on the part of BP, you are picking and choosing the most slender of points and trying to offload ALL the blame on them. It’s simply not working, and because you practice the same blame-shifting techniques as Tony Hayward, you have lost credibility with the majority of the veterans and most educated amongst your readers. BP is in an indefensible position here, and your words are empty and hollow. You are obviously intelligent and articulate and have a fundamental understanding of well control, but it seems as if all your knowledge is filtered through an agenda of protecting BP at all costs. You, Sir, are part of the problem, and none of the solution.
If you understood the position of the drilling contractor you wouldn’t hold the opinion you hold now.
The first responsibility of the Driller is to flowcheck a well that appears to be flowing. If flowing, shut it in.
I’m an authority on this. I’m not some ass with an opinion about the subject. I do this thing day in and day out.
Are you in the drilling industry? I suspect not, because you offer words of advice on whether we practice our role correctly or not.
Who is it that prevents blowouts? the Driller. Who is in control of volumes? The Driller. Who is answerable if we get a gain and nothing is done about it? The Driller, and the OIM for not recognising that one of his hands has zero experience or understanding of what to do when gas threatens the lives of all on the rig.
