Deepwater Horizon - Transocean Oil Rig Fire
Is there somebody here who has the information sorted to describe exactly the current “as-built” of this well system? There is so much disinformation, speculation and misinformation that it is hard to get a clear picture.

For example, here are questions I have, what size of drill string is in the hole? Where is it? Is there a bit on the end? Is it constricted? Is there leaking through casing seals? Is there leaking around the annulus from the bottom of the casing? Are there cracks in the casing and annulus towards the surface? Around seals of the BOP? Is there believed to be bridging within the casing?

I gave this top kill procedure about a 50-50 chance, well, in retrospect that was too high, although that percentage will never be known, we only know the outcome. Certainly pumping mud from the top (compared to pumping through a tremie into the bottom) is the undisputed last option, which is why I wonder why they didn’t try to somehow connect on to the drill string that is apparently in this well. I know this may be considered a “hot stab”, but if the pressure/flow was allowed through the casing, the problem/danger is significantly reduced.

Now they are moving on to a two-part plan to install an new BOP on top of the old one. Wow, like there aren’t dangers involved there either!
Question one: There was an article I read from the Wall street journal poating the API number of the well. You can get that number & call the MMS & request for the permit to drill using that API number. They are required by law to send you a copy upon request. This will come with some small fee. The request will have the original program, but may not include any variances that were also made by the MMS. You have to be real specific in what you are seeking or will only get what you ask for.
There was no bit on the end. Have to assume open ended work string. Looking at the riser & seeing the flow when they were still supposedly in the process of pumping, it appears it made oil most of the time. This would lead one to believe that is coming from the work string trapped in the riser. That could lead one to believe that this well is flowing from the outside & inside the casing. BP has been so forthcoming we have sit here & pick our noses trying to figure this thing out for ouselves.
